Welcome – Compassionate Online Counselling with Alisha
Sometimes, the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.
Brené Brown
Hello and welcome
My name is Alisha and I am a counsellor working in Private Practice online. I understand that sometimes we can get caught up in old cycles of behaviour that can severely affect our relationships (with ourselves and others), in ways we find difficult to understand or manage. These behaviour may once have been vital in helping us to survive difficult circumstances, but may now be limiting us.
I believe that when we learn to understand ourselves better and our motivations, and can bring them into our awareness, we can make choices about what we want in our lives and what we do rather than being driven by old patterns of behaviour.
I am here to listen to you and to help you to explore whatever is going on for you supportively and non-judgementally.
I am trained to work integratively which just means that I am able to draw upon different techniques and approaches to suit the individual needs of the person I am working with. I work relationally, which means I take notice of what is happening between us because I believe that how we relate to each other nay reveal something of your relationships with other people. I also work creatively and holistically as sometimes people are better able to connect to their experiences non-verbally. I may therefore work with you using imagery and drawing where this feels like it might be helpful and with your agreement.
Training and qualifications
I trained at Re-Vision in North London, where I also worked for their Low-Cost Counselling Service. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), an accreditation body for counsellors and psychotherapists. I work within their Ethical Framework for Counsellors and adhere to their guidelines for Online Counselling and Psychotherapy. I currently work exclusively online and have a Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling.
I offer counselling to adults affected by adoption, fostering or special guardianship orders and have a Certificate in Adoption Support Counselling, a specialist post-qualifying training provided by the Albany Centre in partnership with Barnardos.
I have a background in the cultural and creative industries, running leadership programmes and setting up mentoring programmes for the Clore Leadership Programme. I have provided counselling support for Fellows of the Weston Jerwood Foundation Creative Bursaries Programme and ran Action Learning Sets (peer coaching groups) for the Clore Social Leadership Programme.
Many of my clients have been freelance creatives and those working in the creative industries in some form, but my work is not restricted to this group and if you think I can help please get in touch.
